CARES
The CARES program at Wesley House provides tutoring in Math, Reading and Composition five days a week, as well as home work time. We follow the children's grades each nine week period and meet with each child's teacher to find if the student needs additional help in particular subjects. We also ask if there are any discipline problems or any assistance needed with the parent. We will then meet with the parent and review both the teacher's comments, concerns, and the course of action that we and the school are taking.
In addition to academics and tutoring, CARES provides support for participants who are dealing with difficult life circumstances. The streets and neighborhoods we serve are filled with violence, crime, drugs, illiteracy, and unemployment. Sometimes our children are exposed to these realities at a very young age. To those most in need we are a safe haven for the children who do not go home every night to a stable home or even a loving parent. Wesley House works tirelessly to strengthen the family unit by supporting parents with the assistance and encouragement they need to help raise their children to be successful in life.
